  • Overview

    Reporting to the President & CEO and working in partnership with the COO and other leadership, plans, organizes, and directs all AltaMed Health Services Corporation (AHSC) medical/dental/clinical/nursing/behavioral health/health education services to ensure quality, patient-centric, appropriate, timely, safe, and cost effective care. Responsible for AHSC's Total Quality Management, Peer Review, medical management review of clinical UM/case management/claims transactions, medical education, research (including AltaMed Institute of Health Equity & Medical Education), and health education Programs. May practice and provide medical services at one or more of AltaMed’s sites.

    Responsibilities

    1. In collaboration with national and market-based clinical and executive leaders, assists in the implementation of clinical programs, policies and strategies which are committed to AltaMed’s vision and mission, and demonstrate enthusiastic support of value-based, effective, efficient and patient-centered care across the entire delivery system continuum.
    2. Oversees and provides leadership to the clinicians and clinician leadership/management structure which includes clinic, regional and network-level clinician management, as well as the following areas: quality improvement, disease management, care management, risk management, peer review, utilization review, clinical outcomes, preventive health, clinical integration, new market development, and clinical model re-design
    3. Chairs the Medical Leadership Council (Medical Group) and Clinical Leadership Council (IPA network)
    4. Fosters a culture of best demonstrated practices, measurement, performance, continuous improvement, accountability, customer & teammate service-orientation, as well as exemplary teamwork.
    5. Participates in the mentoring and development of clinician managers/leaders.
    6. Assists in the development, implementation and modification of market-competitive compensation programs and incentives aimed at aligning the interest of clinicians, with the goals of the organization.
    7. Oversees the development of an ongoing professional development, education, and learning program for employed physicians and clinicians.
    8. Oversees an effective process for clinician performance evaluation, reward and recognition, coaching, peer review, constructive feedback and discipline.
    9. Oversees all clinical programs, e.g. disease management, high risk programs, care management, pharmacy, hospitalist programs, behavioral health, wellness and prevention and other programs as designed to maximize the achievement of AltaMed’s clinical vision.
    10. Oversees the development of clinical guidelines such that quality of care is standardized across all markets and variation is minimized.
    11. Oversees development and implementation of guidelines, protocols and care pathways pertaining to medical care for patients
    12. Oversees the development and implementation of medical quality standards and targets, as well as the achievement of such targets.
    13. Collaborates with COO and her/his team to ensure that all medical sites provide Excellent Customer Service and Excellent Clinical Quality Services in a cost effective manner, culturally sensitive to the populations we serve.
    14. In partnership with Executive leadership manage the population and risk management plans, priorities, and programs across the enterprise.
    15. Guides the growth, development, expansion and implementation of each program from inception through implementation.
    16. Leads the deployment of AltaMed’s strategy execution model, including integrating goals, targets and initiatives into enterprise strategy execution reporting databases, deploying scorecards and reporting tools for managers to evaluate strategic performance and accountability enterprise-wide.
    17. Oversees, recommends and implements credentialing and privileging criteria for clinicians and advanced practitioners.
    18. Assures compliance with all local, state and federal laws, as well as accrediting & licensing agencies.
    19. Oversees risk management programs as well as the approval of malpractice claims.
    20. Represent AltaMed internally and externally as the senior clinician executive and participate in establishing strong and lasting relationships with employed and affiliated clinicians, teammates, health plans, hospital systems, and APG as well as local, state and national government entities and community organizations.
    21. Assist in developing and implementing clinician communication strategies that inform, promote information exchange, and understanding of key initiatives and programs.
    22. Promotes quality standards through audits, peer review, quality management, and learning initiatives.
    23. Promotes information sharing, benchmarking, clinical innovation, and best demonstrated practice identification.
    24. Oversees and provides leadership to the AltaMed Institute of Health Equity & Medical Education including the development of residency programs and talent pipelines.

     

    Qualifications

    1. Physician with an active unrestrictive CA license to practice medicine by the Medical Board of California.
    2. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
    3. Medical group management experience highly preferred.
